Donald Trump may have scored a slam dunk against the impeachment inquiry by revealing that he has never used a telephone.
Congressional Democrats are seeking to impeach the US President after a whistleblower alleged that Mr Trump had urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Trump’s political rival Joe Biden and his son.
Central to the inquiry is a transcript of a phone call made by Trump to the Ukrainian president on July 25th in which he asks Zelensky to investigate the Bidens.
“You see where they got it all so wrong about this Ukraine thing is that I didn’t make any call,” Trump told Jeanine Pirro during a live phone interview on Fox News.
“I’ve never used a telephone, I couldn’t tell you what a telephone is, what a telephone does, or what one looks like so I couldn’t have phoned Zelensky and asked him to investigate the Bidens.
“In fact, I don’t believe that telephones even exist, telephones are fake news, people should be looking at crooked Hillary’s emails, not fake phone calls made with fake phones.”
In a rare moment of investigative journalistic flair, Pirro asked the President how he was conducting the interview if he denied the existence of telephones.
“It’s the voices in my head Jeanine,” Trump replied, “I hear them, now you hear them, soon everyone will hear them.” before shouting “witch hunt” and hanging up.
