Factz Checker change Twitter handle to @IfBorisSaidItThenItsDefinitelyABigFatLie
Fact-checking agency Factz Checker has hit back at the Tories by changing their official Twitter handle to @IfBorisSaidItThenItsDefinitelyABigFatLie.
The move comes after the Conservative Party temporarily rebranded one of its Twitter accounts as a “fact-checking” site for the duration of Tuesday’s televised leaders’ debate between Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn.
The @CCHQPress account, the Tory press office, was renamed “factcheckUK” for the duration of the hour-long TV show but continued to tweet entirely fact-free content.
Factz Checker spokesman, George Fishlove, says the rebranding of the Tory account wouldn’t have fooled anyone and was probably just another “dead cat” to distract from the lack of facts emitted from Boris Johnson’s mouth during the head-to-head debate.
Conservative Party chairman James Cleverly, who is responsible for the party’s digital campaigning, has called on Twitter to immediately suspend the Factz Checker account on the grounds that people will believe anything they read on social media.
